Frustration

I want a degree in Sociology. All of the classes required to major in this adds up to 130 credits. I would love to take 130 credits and leave happily with my degree. But no. To graduate you need 175 credits. I understand why, they want to give students the chance to decide what they want to do by taking random classes. They want to make sure that you get to take classes that you want, even outside your major. What if I don't want to? What if I want to just get my degree and go. I love it here, I love the experience. But I doubt I'm going to love my entire senior year; taking classes that have nothing to do with nothing, knowing I could be done. I know it will be nice to learn about random things, to maybe find a speciality in Soc, but I can definately see my self being upset that I am forced to pay for an additional unecessary year. Maybe I'm just in a negative Nancy mood. I have no clue what I'm going to think when I'm a senior. Best to not worry about it now:)

Hang in there, Morgan! 4 years is a long time to worry about what classes you will be taking then. You may actually find your life plan changes. Look at me ---- your old maid aunt who got married at 47, lost her job because of it, was forced to change her life plan, and is the happiest she's ever been. Life is weird sometimes and those unexpected changes can be fantastic! All I can say is "keep your options open."

Sounds like you had a great time last weekend with Jacob. The sea lions at Pier 39 are one of my all-time favorite, laugh out loud, tourist attractions.

Gary and I are looking forward to your Mom's visit later this week. Grandma is driving down for the weekend also.

Take care. We love you.

I say, just mix in a class or two of useless electives every semester for the first 3 years, then senior year focus only on what you're passionate about. Will that work with your schedule? Or do you have to take things in a certain order? My favorite year of college (academically) was my last. It was all my upper level art history classes. I lived in the fine arts building. Good Luck! Either way you slice it, you still have to do your 4 years. Love, Nic
P.S. If it makes you feel any better I have to take algebra for my interior design degree...when am I going to use that, like for figuring out really complicated drapes???
